In Another Life

In another life I think we could have been ethereal
You, my love, bewitching and transcendent
Like the first streak of lightning across a clear night sky
And me, the devoted moon orbiting your celestial body
I abhor what the modern world has forced us into
A state of catastrophe akin to the destruction of Pompeii
The circumstances that have shaped us are ugly and grim
Irrevocably damaging, causing us to fall victim to ruin
Yet even in the face of all this strife you never cease to enthrall
Like a deity of old, showered with praise at every altar
Some days I long for another life where everything hurts less
Where you can fearlessly be everything that you deserve
But most days I know that it does not matter
Because you, my love, are resplendent no matter the situation
And you have never needed thoughts of another life
To aid you in making the most out of this one
