The Devil’s Touch

ree

CRASH!

When he first touched her face,

It was to say “I love you”

THUMP!

Now when he touches her

It serves as a reprimand

A burning hot reminder, the consequence of disobedience

The devil’s touch

A caress so sweet and seductive, till it morphs red-hot at a moment’s notice

When he transforms from a lover to a fighter, she hardly sees it coming

She believes that it’s her fault that he’s so violent, that he hits her

He plays the game too well, telling her that he wouldn’t “lose his temper”

If only she could follow directions, and she believes it

Now, she lays upon the floor among the shattered glass

She gazes into the result of his outburst, a mural of broken pieces

She sees the disjointed reflection of someone

Who was hurt too many times

Wondering if she too has broken, like a piece of art past its prime
